A Timely Smash Update?!
Oh yeah. I’m on top of this.
This morning’s Smash Bros. Dojo update officially enduced Pokéboners the world over. In a clever (and previously thought of by yours truly) move, the newest character to the franchise is a Pokémon Trainer!
Our generic, unnamed hero stands in the background, out of harm’s way and let’s his Pokémon do his bidding, which raises some questions - but we’ll get to them in a minute. With a familiar combination of a Squirtle, an Ivysaur, and a Charizard, he’s is sure to put a new spin on gameplay. Oh what’s that Pikachu? There’s only one of you? There are three of us. …Granted, we can only be used one at a time… and we share a health gauge.
Now then, the questions:
1) As The Tanooki so rightfully bitches - Why aren’t you Ash Ketchem? Seriously, I know you’re playing off the *ahem* success (brrrndt) of Pokémon Battle Revolution, but you’ve got everything except the face and name - everyone knows Ash. Be Ash.
2) What happens to you in levels like Rumble Falls or Castle Siege that require characters to move or die? Will you actually get with it and haul ass to stay with the fight or will you cop out and have some kind of Pokéhover Pad? Furthermore, will you interact with the characters in Smashville?
3) Oooh, what’s your Final Smash? A fourth, more rare Pokébadass? (I need to stop with the Poképuns) Or will the selected Pokémon evolve? Isn’t Charizard the highest evolution of his kind though? I don’t keep up with this stuff enough to know. Maybe you’ll hop into the foreground and cut this Michael Vick business and fight for yourself… Probably not.
4) Since you issue commands, will there be a slight delay in reaction? It’d be more accurate, but it would kinda suck.
5) When one of your Pokémon bite the dust, will they respawn like everyone else or be traded out for the next in line?
6) Will each of the three Pokémon have robust movesets or will they be dumbed down to compensate for being able to be taken out of the action just long enough for a trading animation? Additionally, will they be able to do more than charge around and throw kicks and punches - ‘cuz that’s all your showin’ me thus far, big guy.
7) Will your alternate costumes include a female version of you - something tells me they will. Do alternate costumes even exist?
It seems like the more they reveal for this game, the more questions I get. Feel free to leave your own thoughts, best guesses, and additional questions in the comments.
