What the Devil?
So… this morning’s Smash Update was, uh… interesting.
Say hello to the aptly named “Devil”, a guy that only a small percentage of cyberspace should even care to recognize. Apparently, this guy comes from an NES game that was never released in the states. I’m not jealous. What is it with the Japanese and their love for scantily clad dudes doing silly dances? I suppose it’s a cultural barrier.
Anyway - in addition to looking annoying, this guy IS annoying. And as Sakurai himself notes, he doesn’t really live up to his title as an Assist Trophy. An “Aw fuck, not this guy again” Trophy seems more appropriate. So what exactly does he do?
After the little bastard does his best Ginyu Force impression, he points in a direction - and the camera goes that way. Fuck. It’s no secret that going off the screen is bad news in Smash - so hold on to your nuts and hope your character has some ups, because as Donkey Kong’s fat ass is demonstrating, the bit of stage real estate left isn’t much. Assist Trophies that do more harm than good, you’re a twisted man, Sakurai - a twisted, twisted man.
