There’s been a lot of speculation and endless fakes released, but the question remains - how many characters are in Brawl? Here’s a breakdown based on what we know:
Ok, so - here’s the character list from Melee:
We come in at a solid 25. Those blank spots on the bottom row still bug me.
Now then, here’s the character select from the demo in San Francisco:
14 of the 22 characters confirmed up to this point. 21 if you separate Samus and Zero Suit Samus. Here’s a link to the character banner again to refresh your memory: bannerjpeg2.jpg
Now what happens if we take up all that extra real estate with similarly sized thumbnails?
Ouch. We come up with 24. One less than Melee - even with those blank spots filled. There’s no way in hell. Based on this, we can conclude that the thumbnails will be smaller in the final game.
But how small? How about Melee small?
This brings us to a solid 30 characters to choose from.
This seems to make more sense, doesn’t it? Yes and no - there are 13 characters from Melee that have yet to be confirmed for Brawl. One of two things is going to happen from here - either a handful of Melee fighters are getting cut, or the thumbnails are gonna get so small that they get hard to read. I’m putting my vote on the first of the two. Then again, they could change the way we select our characters entirely. Food for thought - what do you think?
